5 Things NOT to do if you want more bookings

There are so many bits of advice out there about what you SHOULD be doing! But sometimes what NOT to do is more helpful…

Eliminating what you should STOP DOING, or knowing what you need to change, is a good way to tick things off a checklist. And we all love crossing things off our to-do list, right?

[Don’t go the ‘Wrong Way!]

So for ‘alternative’ interiors advice, here’s what NOT to do if your aim is to get MORE BOOKINGS in your holiday rental!

Read on and take note!

1. Don’t do what everyone else is doing!

DON’T FOLLOW THE CROWD!

If you do, you’ll get trapped in that ‘sea of mediocrity’ - a place where you’ll struggle to be noticed and therefore get lost when it comes to your potential guests actually finding you!

2. Don’t go neutral

It’s actually harder to do if you want to create impact!

I admire people who can ‘do neutral’ well. It’s not the easy option! When you have a neutral colour palette you have to make sure you have the BEST of everything, it usually is all brand new, and texture is most definitely your friend! All things which are difficult to ‘get right’.

So injecting colour and pattern is a budget-lover’s dream! You can create an impactful ‘wow’ very easily with a bit of bravery in your interior choices.

Below are some examples from my own work…

3. Don’t only have plain soft furnishings - throw some pattern into the mix!

As mentioned above, adding colour and pattern really up-levels your property in terms of wow-factor!

I see so many holiday rentals who have tried to do something different - a coloured wall, a few colourful cushions, and this is great, but you need to go further and throw some pattern in there too!

It adds depth, it adds drama, and it adds that little ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the mix. And THAT is what will get you noticed!

4. Don’t only have ‘average’ sized everything

Play with scale and GO LARGE with your lighting and artwork for example!

Wide-angle lenses on cameras have a tendency to make things look smaller. When you want impact, it can’t be denied that SCALE is important, and makes someone look!

So when you’re reaching for that lampshade - the averaged sized one - think again! Swing your arm to the LARGEST one you can find, and be bold!

5. Don’t play it safe. Be bold and take some risks.

What’s the worst that could happen? You don’t like it, and you change it. It’s not so bad.

But what’s the BEST that could happen? You could get all the bookings you need, at a higher nightly rate than you thought possible, and you could also be more proud of your holiday rental than you dreamed of!

It’s worth the risk I’d say!

So when you next start to look at the interior design of your holiday let / Airbnb, think whether you are guilty as charged on any of these counts! Come on, admit it. Do you plead guilty, or not guilty?

If you are guilty, making the changes to eliminate them will be sure to change your fortunes, and get you more bookings for your holiday home rental!
